View from a Bicycle

A patient I saw a year ago sent me a video. It was the view of the road speeding past underneath the frame and front wheel of a bicycle.

Did you know that erectile dysfunction and other pelvic floor dysfunctions can be associated with cycling?

They can. The question is, did the bicycle cause the pelvic floor dysfunction, or did the pelvic floor dysfunction show up with the cycling?

In this case, this patient had a fall that resulted in pelvic floor dysfunction. This prevented him from riding his bicycle because of the pain.

This is when I met him. He took about a year to recover from his symptoms. I saw him a few times over several months. The complicating factor for him wasn’t a lack of compliance with his exercises, it wasn’t an earth-shattering intervention, or some secret that nobody else knows about. It was his work. He had a great job that he enjoyed, but he hit a several month time frame of high stress.

Several sessions of education, encouragement, and dry needling over a several month period of time is what worked. He kept at it and didn’t let any discouragement get the best of him.

Now he’s back to biking!

Kick the discouragement in the teeth. If you need help doing that, go get it!
